About AC-AF
Africa’s Children-Africa’s Future (AC-AF) has a vision of a future in which all children have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. We offer programming globally which encourages empowerment amongst children and youth. AC-AF’s programming has been designed to meet the evolving demands of the communities that we work with. All of our programmes offer grassroots responses and sustainable solutions that build local capacity and can be replicated where the need exists. AC-AF currently has offices in Canada and Tanzania.
AC-AF Programming
AC-AF’s Orphan and Vulnerable Children Support Programme (OVCSP) is a holistic approach to help improve the lives of children affected by HIV and AIDS. The programming we provide equips children with the skills needed to become successful adults. This includes access to formal education, professional training, emotional support and, most notably, financial assistance through the world’s first known micro-credit lending programming for those under the age of 18. Our innovative approach was recognized in Vienna, Austria this past summer at the World AIDS Conference, for its preliminary success toward a sustainable solution to the orphan crisis.
AC-AF’s second programme, u+me=we, is designed to build knowledge and awareness amongst today’s youth, about HIV and AIDS and its impact. This programme incorporates arts-based projects, empowering youth to utilize different mediums to communicate their message. u+me=we includes topics such as transmission, protection, treatment,, stigma and discrimination, as well as addressing the question as to how youth can contribute to the fight against HIV.
Where Does the Money Go?
AC-AF is a small organization that does great work. AC-AF has very little overhead and administrative costs, below what is recommended by the Canada Revenue Agency. The majority of funds raised by AC-AF go directly to helping those in need who are recipients of our programming. More detailed financial information about AC-AF can be seen in our most recent annual report.
Monies raised will mean that AC-AF can:
- continue providing support to these children and youth and continually improve the support and services that we provide so our participants are receiving the best support possible.
- extend our Orphan and Vulnerable Children Support Programme (OVCSP) to include more families in programming.
- increase the outreach of our u+me=we programme, in the hopes that increasing youths’ education about HIV and AIDS will amongst other outcomes, translate into lower transmission rates for the next generation.
- bring awareness to one of today’s most at risk groups in innovative ways, while fostering their creative potential through our annual arts projects
To get a better idea of what costs in programming are, take a look at our ethical gifting campaign “Make an Impact: Presents with Presence”.
